The one thing, I always wanted to do in Mumbai, finally I did it on last Sunday (18 Jan 2015).
Yes! I ran a Marathon, Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon – Dream Run (6km).
I have been living in Mumbai since 4.5 years and I had heard so much about the famous Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM). It is the largest Marathon in Asia. Fortunately, this time I got a chance to run a marathon. It was organized by my office team, Mastek Foundation.
I am really thankful to the Mastek Foundation team for making The Run Day totally amazing and fun. It is my one of the best experiences, which everyone should have at least once in a lifetime.
So, it started early Sunday morning, my roommate and I were fully energetic about the Marathon day. As expected, local trains toward the CST station were heavily crowded. When we first reached to CST station, I noticed colors everywhere. People were in groups, wearing colorful T-shirts mostly representing their company.
For us, it was a “Go Green” theme, motivating people for saving trees and promoting Clean India Campaign. Our florescent green T-shirts, hair extensions and fancy goggles were the most catchy and attractive. Most of the public were calling us for clicking photos with them.
As per the plan, we had to meet at Azad Maidan. The Marathon started at sharp 9 am from the CST station; we started walking towards start point, most of the time we were walking and promoting our theme and all the crowd was doing the same.
As one of the main attractions of the marathon, we spotted some of the celebrities and famous personalities. Media people were everywhere taking videos and photographs of participants.
Our team had performed a skit around flora fountain and near Marine drive area. Metro was the end point for the Marathon. It took us around 3-4 hours to finish complete Marathon.
At end point, we were completely exhausted and I was hardly able to walk, but I really enjoyed my Run Day, it was a total fun. Running, walking, shouting, dancing in the middle of the road and clicking photographs with complete strangers, it was a totally unique and worthy experience.
