Polonnaruwa & Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Itinerary Day 3 On day 3, we had a big day ahead since we planned to visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya rock fortress. After having a big English breakfast of bread-butter-jam, eggs and some fruits in the morning we met Manju. Manju owns a tourist car and he was our car driver cum guide for the next few days. When I first saw Manju, I was quite surprised by his look. He was so neat and clean. Manju was a big fan of Hindi movies and he told us once upon a time he was addicted of Hindi movies and he stopped watching TV to get rid of his addiction. He knew some Hindi movie dialogues as well. We decided to go Polonnaruwa first since it was a bit far and it needs more time explore. Polonnaruwa is an ancient archeological city and one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. On the way on our journey, at one point we saw few monitor lizards roaming on the road and that …

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Sri Lanka

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage and nursery for Asian Elephants. It is one of the famous tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. The orphanage is established to feed, nurse and house baby elephants found abandoned by their mothers. On day 2 of our Sri Lanka trip,  we started early in the morning since we wanted to go Pinnawala village and visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. The distance from Colombo to Pinnawala is around 90 kilometers. At Bus stop, we made inquiry about travelling options to Pinnawala.  We met one Tuk Tuk driver, who was ready to take us to Pinnawala, but he was asking too much money.  After some discussion, we agreed on rate of 35 LKR for per kilometers. It was around 2 hours journey, so we decide to go by Tuk Tuk. Though, the buses are cheaper than Tuk Tuk. There was a beautiful lake nearby bus stop along with some local shops & restaurants. We went there and had breakfast.  I tried Sri Lankan breakfast of Noodles, Daal and coconut Sāmbhar. After …

Visiting Sri Lanka For The First Time

Sri Lanka, “The land of Lanka” is my first international travel destination. 🙂 I was extremely excited about my Sri Lanka trip since the first time ever my passport was getting stamped.  I was about to cross the boundaries of my country and travel into another county. The feeling and excitement was just like a dream come true.  I was along with my two friends all set for our backpacking trip. Everything was unplanned except our first day accommodation in Colombo. We had a rough plan of the places we had to visit in 9 days. Just a few days ago, I came back from my backpacking trip and I have almost traveled most of the Sri Lanka. And no doubt, I am in love with this country. I have captured Sri Lanka in my camera in my own ways. Now, I have 2000+ photos and I desperately want all it to share with you guys. I did city tours, village walks, climbed rocks , swam in the ocean, hiked through tea farms, stayed and experienced  local …

Puducherry (Pondicherry) You Must Visit At Least Once

Puducherry (Pondicherry) or Pondy is one of the seven union territories of India. The place was in our rough plan when I was in Chennai along with my few friends for one wedding function.  After the wedding function, we had one whole day extra for our leisure time. We decide to go for a day trip to Pondicherry.  We booked a personal car for a day and the next morning we started our journey towards Pondicherry. Pondicherry is around 150 kilometers from Chennai via East Coast Road (ECR).  I was super excited since ECR journey is considered as the one of the best road journeys of India. We were mostly driving through the coastal areas and indeed, it was an amazing road journey though the climate was bit humid and hot. Pondicherry Beach was the first stop where we stopped.  It offers beautiful seafront.  There is a huge statue of Gandhi Ji at one on the entrances along with long promenade for walking. Frankly, summer is not so good to visit Pondicherry. Initially, we got …

Kolkata To Sundarbans – A Journey Through Basanti Road

Back in March 2015, I have got a change to explore The Sundarbans, one of the most amazing places of India, so called “Amazon of East”. I traveled to Sundarbans from Kolkata through Basanti road and this rustic road journey turned out the most memorable journey I ever had. We traveled through many villages one by one on Kaccha/Dirt road. I still remembered, at the time, when we were started towards Sundarbans, one of the members from coordinating team us already told us “Abhi bahot majja aane wala hai aap logo ko” (Now, you guys are going to have a fun). Indeed, this journey was an unique experience (As good as equal to Bumper ride).  Most of the times, our coordinators were telling us real incidents, the villagers stories and how they spotted the Royal Bengal tigers and other wildlife in forest. For me , it was the most rustic route I have ever been to and the interesting part was I witnessed urban and rural life in a single day. As we were moving away from the …

Mysore Palace, Karnataka

Mysore is considered as one of the historical places of India. In earlier days, Mysore was a kingdom of the southern India which was ruled by the Wodeyer family. It also described as “City of Palaces” because it has a number of the historical palaces. Unfortunately when I reached Mysore late in the evening, the Mysore Palace was already closed.  I did not get a chance to see the palace completely, but somehow I managed to get few photos from outside. Mysore Palace is the one of the main attractions of Mysore city. It is also called as “Palace of Mysore” or “Amba Vilas”. The Mysore Palace is the home of the Wodyers who ruled Mysore for more than 500 years.   The Palace is indeed worth a visit, for its spacious halls, 3D wall paintings and architectural beauty. The palace should not to be missed seeing when it is illuminated on Sundays and other festival occasions specially during the Dasara festival. Palace Timing – The palace is open throughout the week from 10 am to 5.30 pm. Just to mention, Photography inside the main palace …

Bangalore -> Mysore -> Ooty -> Bangalore –   A Perfectly Unplanned Road Trip

Unplanned things can bring real excitements in your travels. Have you ever got chance to go on any unplanned road trip? Sometimes, Journey is far better than the destination and if it is unplanned then we get to know how well we can manage all unexpected things. Recently, I was in Bangalore for my Wildcraft Alpha League Race event. Wildcraft Alpha League Race event was an adventure race in which we contestants had run 5 kms of muddy track along with crossing 20 different obstacles. Unexpectedly, there was a huge crowd of around 5000 people. It was the one of the best adventure experiences I had after Waterfall Rappelling. But at the end of the race my friends and I were totally tired and our bodies were aching badly. It was our reunion time, we four friends decided to go on a road trip and explore the Bangalore city and nearby places.  With some basic trip planning of a few hours we came up with the plan and we hired a car for one day .We thought …
